Do you know your ward well enough to vote in Toronto’s municipal election this fall?

If not, no worries — we’re here to catch you up before voting day is here.

Toronto’s municipal election is coming up on Oct. 26, with advance voting open between Oct. 6 and 11. We’re here to help you stay informed on what’s happening in your neighbourhood before you cast your ballot for mayor, city councillor and school board trustee.

Here are the basics that you need to know about Ward 3 Etobicoke-Lakeshore.

Ward 3’s rough boundaries are Etobicoke Creek to the west, Humber River to the east; then Bloor Street, Kipling Avenue, Mimico Creek and Dundas Street to the north, and Lake Ontario to the south.

So, if you live within these boundaries, you’ll vote in Ward 3 during the Municipal Election this October.

This encompasses the neighbourhoods of Mimico, New Toronto, Long Branch, Alderwood, Humber Bay Shores, Islington-City Centre West/Six Points and Stonegate-Queensway.

According to the most recent Canadian census, Etobicoke-Lakeshore’s population is approximately 139,920. It’s the most populated ward in Toronto, and 46.2% of residents are between the ages of 20 and 49.

39.1% of residents are immigrants — from India, Poland, Ukraine, the Philippines, and the UK — and the median annual income is $6k higher than Toronto’s average, at $ 90,000, with 13.1% of residents classified as low-income — not far off from the city’s average annual household income of under $30,000.

Most homes in this ward are single detached houses and apartment buildings over five storeys. 43% of residents are renters versus 57% are homeowners.

Etobicoke Lakeshore’s local issues

Hot topics in this ward include waterfront protection, recent developments in Mimico expanding and the community fighting back, accessible transit options like the Park Lawn GO and more.

For Park Lawn GO, there were plans for it to be built, but it was paused when the provincial government told Metrolinx in 2018 to stop building new stations.
