You’re in luck, because Toronto has many specialized antiquarian bookstores with unique collections on their shelves. Whether you want to spice up your personal library or spend hours marvelling at your options, this list of Toronto bookstores with vintage finds is perfect for you.Â
Acadia Books
Acadia Books’ signature blue storefront is unmissable on 232 Queen St. E. This bookstore is almost a hundred years old and home to two cats, beautiful art prints and vintage books. It’s not exactly your typical second-hand bookstore, but it’s a great place to sift through vintage magazines and rare books.
The Scribe
The Scribe on 375 Danforth Ave. takes used books to the next level with rare, vintage and collectible items in its stock. The bookstore is a member of the Antiquarian Booksellers’ Association of Canada (ABAC) and is home to truly unique finds. Don’t worry, it doesn’t always come with a hefty price tag; the store sometimes runs summer sales with books for $5.
Great Hall Bookshop
Great Hall Bookshop opened its doors just last winter in Cabbagetown at 416 Parliament St. It has both new and second-hand books, plus a super cute display to browse. You’ll find vintage comics, antique books from the early 1900s and prints from local artists.
If you have old books to share, the owner will gladly accept them.

Seekers Books
Tucked in a basement on 509 Bloor St. W., Seekers has been a landmark in Toronto’s book scene since 1988 with its large collection of used and rare books. Another important perk: it has an orange cat, Churchill. The bookshop is run by two siblings and prides itself on “specializing in occult and welcoming open debates.”
Monkey’s Paw
If you’re looking for a funky bookstore to shop for used and “uncommon” books from antique times, Monkey’s Paw at 1067 Bloor St. W. is for you. The shop is home to the “Biblio Mat,” a vintage book vending machine that randomly dispatches a book for a token. This spot is a must-visit for the whimsical girlies.
Sellers and Newel
At Sellers and Newel on 672 College St., you’ll find used books and live music. This fully accessible bookstore has a built-in ramp. It specializes in books on music, spirituality and “weird” fiction, with some of its collection online. So you can browse the shop’s website. But don’t let online prices scare you; there are plenty of affordable picks in store.
A Good Read
If you’re strolling around in Roncy, A Good Read on 341 Roncesvalles Ave. has new, used and rare books, plus friendly dogs ready for a pat. Signed first editions are a distinct feature at this cozy spot.
