Not that I’m a hater but I can point out a Toronto red flag from miles away and you probably should too.
People obviously deserve grace and kindness in navigating the day-to-day. Some people are having bad moments and some others just simply don’t know that their behaviour is a social issue.
But if you’re curious as to what a Toronto red flag is, here’s a list.
- Standing on the left side of the escalator and then, looking confused when someone’s annoyed you’re not letting them through.
- Stopping directly at the top of the escalator trying to figure out where to go. Congrats, you survived the journey. Now, move. Fun fact: I fell down the escalator at the Eaton Centre when I was a kid.
- Blocking the TTC doors while a million people are trying to escape.
- Refusing to move to the middle of the subway because apparently you own that little area near the door. Thanks to you, I’m in someone’s sweaty armpit.
- Walking slow. Move out of my fricken way, bro. You’re able-bodied, walking with ten friends and taking up the entire sidewalk.
- Rejecting the other boroughs as part of Toronto. Scarborough, Etobicoke and North York are still Toronto.
- Being a jerk and making your friends come all the way to your part of the city, every single time, instead of meeting in the middle or going to theirs for once.
- Hating on Toronto. If you somehow think the city has nothing for you, then you’re fried.
- Saying there’s no good shawarma in the city. There literally is, but you’re just looking for an excuse to hate. You can check out our rankings of the shawarmas on Yonge Street and near the University of Toronto downtown campus.
- Driving e-scooters and bikes thinking you run the absolute world. Get out of my freaking way. I’m so sick of seeing you people swerve red lights and almost hitting pedestrians just so you shave a few seconds off your journey.
- Stopping in the middle of the sidewalk. You have no idea how much this cheeses me. It’s actually number one on this list. I’m going to beat you up if you stop randomly. At the very least, I will probably run into you because you stopped abruptly.
- Refusing to get up on the TTC when you see someone that clearly needs the seat more than you. I get that you worked an eight hour shift, but bro if that old lady flings across the streetcar because she can’t hold her own, you’re gonna a) witness a crime and b) be even more delayed to your destination as the ambulance takes her away.
- Having “Toronto foodie” in your Instagram bio and your recommendation is Nobu.
- Refusing to try a new coffee shop and sticking to big chains because you care more about branding than anything else.
- Refusing to come to our game nights for The Green Line.
