Looking for some vintage South Asian clothing to spruce up your Diwali wardrobe? Well look no further.
After our last round-up of traditional South Asian clothing on Tiktok, we were asked for some places in Toronto selling vintage Indian clothing. We saved our recommendations for this celebratory time, so you can grab your pieces for Diwali events.
Saree House Toronto
This spot, located at 2982 Danforth Ave., specializes primarily in sarees and traditional Indian textiles. It advertises on Facebook that it has some vintage pieces that you can sift through.
If you’re looking for options that aren’t entirely concentrated in Toronto’s Little India, you can check out this one in the Oakridge neighborhood.
It’s also a good place to check out if you’re not near Little India, which is where most South Asian pieces can be found for sale.
Like many ethnic clothing stores, the website doesn’t really have much to go on, but you can contact Saree House with your questions before heading to their website.
My Ethnik Rentals
This spot, located inside Hullmark Centre at 4789 Yonge St., is a rental service with an extensive website. It has plenty of options from lehengas to salwar suits and more.
It has a good selection of vintage items, and some more traditional styles that you can pick from. It also uses non-South Asian models, which I thought was a fun way to show that anyone can benefit from their service. That’s great for anyone who doesn’t come from a South Asian background and is in need of clothing for a friend’s event.
Gadabout
This spot, located at 300 Queen St. E., is a vintage store that sells clothing, books and more. You can find a few vintage, South Asian pieces here, but the stock isn’t always available.
You can look up the stock with online search on its website, so you can see if it has what you’re looking for.
While you’re there, you can also rent out some films!
If you end up checking any of these out, or have a fire Diwali fit you’d like to share, please send it over to us because we’d love to see it.
