There’s nothing more irritating than an ill-fitting job.
If you’re too anxious to work in customer service, or desperately need some face time with strangers to get yourself through the day, here are a couple of roles that’ll fit you no matter your preference.
Designing for law students
One of the oldest faculties at the University of Toronto, the Henry N.R. Jackman Faculty of Law, is looking for someone to help them cover all things web and digital design. Help keep their site updated, design visual assets and do so with accessibility and style in mind. The open role of website design and digital storytelling officer is a one-year contract position with an annual salary of $79,640, based at the university’s St. George campus. Get your resume and portfolio up to date to send your application by the end of day, Oct. 27.
Sorting through the stacks
If you know your way around an archive and York University’s Scott Library, then sharpen your pencils to write a killer resume for their adjunct archivist position. In this role, you’ll support library needs, provide archival literacy and, most importantly, work on organizing the archival materials of Irving Abella. Scholar, professor and historian, Irving Abella is known for her expertise in Canadian labour and the history of Jewish people in Canada. This full-time, in-person role at the university’s Keele campus pays $85,000 to $115,000 annually, depending on experience. Those with familiarity with Canadian Jewish history, especially, are invited to apply for the role, so if this sounds like you, apply by Nov 2.Â
Sustaining a food co-op
With over 50 years in the game, the lasting food initiative Karma Co-op is looking for someone to lead their purchases. If you’re the type to keep track of purchases with elaborate spreadsheets and love to haggle for a good deal, try out for this role. As a full-time supervisor and purchaser, the lucky candidate will maintain relationships with new and existing suppliers, coordinate and track deliveries, and, most importantly, work with staff and volunteers to help run the store as smoothly as possible. This is an in-person role, working five shifts per week at $22 per hour and part of the CUPE Local 1281 union. Throw your hat in the ring with a personalized resume and cover letter by Nov. 8.
Keeping Canadians warm
Learn the ins and outs of sewing luxury outerwear with Canada Goose. If you’re good with your hands and a quick learner, try applying for the iconic brand’s sewing machine operator role. Working full-time at their factory in Fairbank from Monday to Friday, the lucky candidate will be trained to craft clothing parts — from pockets to zippers — with the goal to meet the company’s high-quality standards and daily quotas. Depending on your experience and skill, this role pays competitively, from $18.38 to $26.93 hourly, and includes resources and tools for health management, paid volunteer time and more. If you have steady hands, don’t mind working in a loud environment and are looking to get your sew on, then this role is worth applying to.
Manning the (mini) chocolate factory
Indulge in small-brand chocolatier Soma Chocolatemaker through their seasonal, full-time front-of-house position. For the chocolate lovers with solid barista skills and would enjoy working during Distillery District’s busiest season, make sure to keep an eye on this role. At $18.50 an hour with 4 to 5 shifts a week, the retail sales associate will be customers’ first point of contact, serving various drinks and giving informed recommendations. And don’t forget to prep your answers for the questions listed at the bottom of the job callout.Â
