It may be August, but children are already gearing up for back-to-school season!

With class just around the corner, 12 Division’s Neighbourhood Community Officers (NCOs) are hosting a backpack drive throughout York South-Weston.

NCOs work in partnership with residents and community-based organizations to address crime, disorder and community safety issues, according to the Toronto Police Service’s website. The 12 Division covers neighbourhoods in the York area, with NCOs assigned to neighbourhoods Beechborough-Greenbrook, Rockcliffe-Smythe, Rustic and Weston.

The 12 Division Back 2 School Backpack Drive is asking for new backpacks, non-perishable food items and essential school supplies to give to youth across neighbourhoods.

There will be collection events hosted at various locations throughout August, as listed below.

There will be several events leading up to the big distribution on Sunday, Aug. 30 at Progress Place (1765 Weston Rd).
