Need a clean, free bathroom while visiting the Wychwood neighbourhood?
You don’t have to cut your trip too short or wander into a random business to buy something for washroom access; just go to Wychwood Barns.
This centuries-old streetcar facility on 601 Christie St. operates today as a community cultural hub with apartments and studios for artists, as well as a public space for exhibitions and events — and of course, washrooms that are accessible to anyone. The hub also has free Wi-Fi.
Wychwood Barns is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., every day of the week.
It’s surrounded by the Wychwood Barns Park, which includes a table tennis court and a dog park. It’s a five-minute walk from the Christie stop on the 512 streetcar, or right across Christie Street at the Benson Avenue stop on the 126 bus.
It’s a perfect stop to add to your Wychwood itinerary if you’re planning a day to explore Casa Loma and the Spadina Museum, which are about a 20-minute walk from the hub.
If you happen to be visiting on Saturday, make sure to catch The Stop Farmers’ Market nearby.
You can also keep an eye on Wychwood Barns’ Instagram account for programming and events happening every month. For example, this July, the hub is hosting “Work from Wychwood Wednesdays” from 12 to 4:30 p.m. It also runs occasional art markets and children’s programming.
