Since I landed in Toronto as a newcomer in 2023, I’ve relied on local journalism to help me navigate and make sense of my new city.

Nine months later, I joined The Green Line to help produce the stories I loved reading — first, as an engagement editor, teaching community journalism and video storytelling to young folks in and around Alexandra Park; then, as managing editor overseeing our Action Journeys, guides, newsletters and socials.

Now, I step into the role of senior editor and Local Journalism Initiative reporter for Thorncliffe Park and Flemingdon Park. This means I get to do my absolute favourite thing about the job: spend time in the neighbourhood, get to know our communities and report back with information and solutions that you might find interesting and helpful.

If you’re not familiar, the Local Journalism Initiative is a program through which the Government of Canada provides funding to journalism outlets, like The Green Line, to have a reporter produce civic information to underserved communities around them.

For the next year, I’ll be working closely in and around Thorncliffe Park and Flemingdon Park to learn about issues residents face in their day-to-day lives, and to surface solutions and resources.

I’m on a mission to translate civic information, systemic issues and local resources into practical, relatable articles and videos that you can use to solve your problems.
