Or, to be more specific, I am only willing to apply to somewhere where I actually care to work at.
I’ve been out of a job, The Green Line excluded, since March and know with certainty that I am simply not made for every job, nor do I want to pretend to be. I don’t need my next gig to tick every single box on my wishlist or be super meaningful, but I do want to work somewhere where I feel some sense of purpose. Even if that purpose is making someone a really good latte.
I’m tragically not built like my parents would’ve wanted, to grind wherever need be but I’ve tried and learned I’m really bad at faking it. If I don’t care, or worse, hate what I’m doing, it’s gonna show and ruin the vibes for everyone! I don’t want to ruin the vibes!
So, I’m always on the lookout for interesting jobs. Here’s some I found that, hopefully, interests you and offers transparency about pay.
Programming the arts
For those of you with a background in managing and programming regular events and programs, Wildseed Centre for Art & Activism and Toronto Arts Council and Toronto Arts Foundation are both looking to hire program managers.
For Wildseed, this full-time programming manager position is in-person for $70,000 a year. At their 24 Cecil St. location, you’ll be expected to help curate and facilitate regular event series and workshops, lead submission for grants, and more. You can find more details on the position, requirements and how to apply here. Please note that benefits were not listed, this opportunity is for an eight-month contract (with possibility of renewal) and the deadline to apply is Aug. 28, 2026 at 11:59 p.m.
Toronto Arts Council (TAC) and Toronto Arts Foundation is looking for a full-time hybrid program manager for their Indigenous Arts sector, so candidates must also identify as Indigenous with a minimum of five years working in Toronto’s arts scene. With a four day work week, health benefits and salary ranging from $80,000 to $90,000, this role will be in charge of managing and implementing community-led recommendations to TAC’s Indigenous Arts and overall grant programs and application format. Details on this role and application can be found here. To be considered, please apply by Sep. 4, 2026.
The art of installation
If you’re more of a hands-on person, with two years (or more!) of craftsmanship under your belt and a proud owner of a G driver’s licence, then Dennis Lin Studios may have the opportunity for you. At $25-27 an hour, the art studio is looking for an efficient and detail-oriented in-person part-time/freelance studio assistant who can assist with assembling and installing large-scale productions. Benefits weren’t listed and the job call will stay open until the position is filled, so apply ASAP!
Marketing the arts
For my communication majors from (or simply love) Scarborough, then make sure to apply for Scarborough Arts’ hybrid full-time communications manager position. Plan, design and execute promotional campaigns in-line with the organization’s voice, help foster current and future partnerships and assist with in-person and online events. All are welcome to apply, but priority will be given to candidates who have experienced living and/or working in Scarborough. The salary ranges from $63,000 to $65,000 yearly, but no benefits were listed in the job posting. Look into the position and apply (even if you don’t fit every bullet point, all those excited by the role are invited to) by Aug. 30, 2026.
All these jobs were found through Work in Culture’s amazing job board, which is definitely worth checking out for the creatives and unconventional out there trying to get employed. I really love the board because all their postings have a section clear on compensation, benefits and their application format.
