Here are a couple of events that are worth trekking out into the city for.

ALL AGES ART JAM

All ages arts jam: Looking for something fun to do with the whole family? On June 20, join Lakeshore Arts for their inaugural Mimico Arts Jam. From 2 to 6 p.m., contribute to a textile map, learn the ropes of rug tufting, write some poetry or simply enjoy the performances of local artists. The event is free and safe for a donation-based cyanotype activity, so join in on the fun at Amos Waites Park.

WEST END PARTY

West End party: For all the local music heads, Wavelength has organized the free, all-ages St. Anne’s Block Party for the weekend of June 20 and 21. This celebration features live musicians of all genres, food trucks and art installations. Take a break from your FIFA watch party for this free, all-ages festival set in the parking lot of 270 Gladstone Ave. So long as you nab a ticket, you’ll be good to enjoy all the fun Wavelength has in store.

AFROCENTRIC DRUM CIRCLE

Afrocentric drum circle: Get grounded with fellow trans and gender diverse Black community through Ubuntu’s Touch Grass event. Bring a blanket, an instrument and your best self to Trinity Bellwoods to practice breathwork, form a drumming circle and more. The event will be from 12 to 3 p.m. on June 20. Keep your eyes peeled on Ubuntu’s socials for more details.

OUTDOOR VERSE EXPLORATIONS

Outdoor verse explorations: Join the poetry reading group Tender Possibilities for their next session on Sunday, June 21. From 2 to 4 p.m., head to Evergreen Brick Works for a facilitated afternoon of poetry, art installations, and curated discussions for free, so long as you RSVP beforehand. They also offer TTC fare reimbursement and childcare with notice, so make sure to contact the team if needed.

EXPLORING TORONTO'S HISTORY

Exploring Toronto’s history: Need to get out of the house with the promise of niche knowledge? Then make sure to sign up for Heritage Toronto’s walking tours, which regularly happen throughout the year. For a little over $10, learn about Black history on King Street, nightlife on College Street, and the queer lineage home to Toronto’s Gay Village.
