Here’s where you should go to build community in Toronto

The city has thankfully cooled down.

Now on to some events to take advantage of this great weather.

MASTER THE WAVES

Master the waves: Join Brown Girl Outdoor World for a beginner windsurfing class for racialized women in the city. On July 10 from 6 to 8 p.m., you can learn the ropes of sailing in and out of the sea. Tickets are going for $64.68, a steep discount compared to their regular $99 price, so snag yours quickly.

CLOSET SWAP

Closet swap: For all those needing to update their wardrobes, the Scarborough Environmental Association is hosting a free closet swap on July 11. This monthly event, held at Mid Scarborough’s The Hub, is open to all. Drop off your gently used and clean items from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., then leave with something new between 12:30 and 2:30 p.m.

SLIME WITH SAPPHICS

Slime with sapphics: Looking to get your hands dirty but aren’t blessed with a green thumb or DIY spirit? Then join art collective Creatives Lesbians in Tkaronto for their slime day event on July 11. Relive elementary school science class or recreate the fancy slimes you’ve seen your fave ASMR-ist use alongside fellow sapphics at the Music Garden. Materials will be limited, so don’t forget to stop by the dollar store to get some extra supplies (and glitter!) for all your slime needs.

MAKE YOUR MARK

Make your mark: Stamp your complaints with the help of The Vermin magazine’s Talk Shit, Get Print event. Guided by artist Laura Grier, you’ll learn the ropes of linocut printmaking per ticket to decorate an old tee, scrap paper, or junk journal for the price of $27.96. On July 13, workshop your best slogans with like-minded folks to print at Hosted at Critical Distance from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m.

PRACTICING PLAY

Practicing play: Living Hyphen joins the Theatre Centre for a themed storytelling series. Aptly described as a playshop, on July 13, you’re invited to slow down and dive deep into nuance and complexity through guided exercises. From 7 to 10 p.m., immerse yourself in themed art prompts, no art experience necessary. Tickets are PWYC, starting at $10 to $50, but those without funds will not be turned away.
