It’s time to highlight some upcoming summer public meetings before Toronto’s City Council gears up for the municipal election in October.
Toronto City Council is “taking a break” from us.
It does feel like our civic situationship is coming to an end, with councillors telling us “they’re focusing on themselves and working on their career.”
Because that’s what’s happening. City Council meetings are going on a recess for the summer and councillors are gearing up for the municipal election scheduled for Oct. 26, 2026.
Obviously don’t worry about missing your dose of public meetings and awesome deputations, because you’ll still be able to keep up with community consultations. I’ll also still be around to answer any questions you folks have.
But something extra exciting is coming to feed your civic obsession. The Civics for the Average Torontonian series is launching this August to prepare you for everything you need to know to make an informed decision when voting this fall.
Consider me your civic big sister – even though I’m only 25.
Without further ado, keep these meeting on your radar for next week:
- On July 27, CreateTO, which is the City’s real estate agency, is hosting a meeting to discuss advancing the redevelopment of Scadding Court Community Centre – a well-loved space on Dundas Street West. Need a primer before heading there? Check this story we reported about it. CreateTO will also discuss a transit-oriented and mixed-income development just north of the Ontario Science Centre.
- On July 29, 30 and 31, attend the last few days of City Council meetings for the summer. They’re pretty accessible and even streamed on YouTube. Keep in mind that you can’t depute at these meetings, as City Council looks at forwarded items from smaller committees to decide the big things happening in Toronto. The agenda hasn’t been finalized yet, but these meetings can get quite juicy.

Now, if you’re a little worried on where to have your civic-related questions answered, just know you can ask me anything regarding the upcoming election or how City Council even works. And then, we can address them in next month’s civic watchlist.
