Do you know your ward well enough to vote in Toronto’s municipal election this October?
If you don’t, don’t freak out. We’re here to give you all you need to know.
Toronto’s municipal election on Oct. 26 is coming up in less than a month and advance polling will open from Oct. 6 until Oct. 11. We’ve got you covered on what’s happening in your neighbourhood, so that when you go cast your ballot for mayor, city councillor and school board trustee, you’re prepared.
Here’s what you need to know about Ward 13 Toronto Centre.
If you have Charles Street East, Bloor Street East and Rosedale Valley Road to the north, the Don River and Don Valley Parkway to the east, the Gardiner to the south and Yonge Street to the west, you’re in Ward 13, Toronto Centre.
The ward includes neighbourhoods such as Cabbagetown, Church-Wellesley, Garden District, Moss Park, Regent Park and more.
According to the ward profile based on the 2021 Canadian census, Ward 13’s population is approximately 116,930.
- 61% of the population are 20 to 49 years old — that’s more than half of the overall population.
- Immigrants make up about 41.7% of the people living there, with China, India, the Philippines, the United Kingdom and South Korea among some of the most common birthplaces.
Toronto Centre’s median household income is about $65,000, which is $19,000 less than the Toronto median income of $84,000. 22.2% of residents classified as low-income, which is defined as having an average annual household income of under $30,000.
85% of residents in this ward live in apartment buildings over five storeys while less than 1% live in single detached houses. 70% of residents rent in the ward, while 30% own.
Toronto Centre’s local issues
Wondering what’s going on in the neighbourhood? Housing affordability is a huge problem given that the ward’s average income is well below the rest of Toronto. Take 405 Sherbourne St., for example. The City has been working on the affordable housing project for years, and Council approved new zoning for the site in February 2026.
The ward also houses domestic and international students since Toronto Metropolitan University and George Brown are located in the heart of it. Students are frequent commuters and often rely on the TTC to get around the city. So, transit and affordability are top of mind.
Encampments and harm reduction initiatives are also major concerns after multiple safe consumption sites, including the one in Moss Park, have been closed.
