It’s time to give those forgotten clothes in your closet a second life by donating them to a vetted charity.
Sanctuary Toronto is a church that provides community resources located in the Church-Wellesley neighbourhood.
“We undertake many life-giving initiatives including running community meals, street outreach, a health clinic, an arts program and Sunday services,” as described on the organization’s website.
Recently, the charity called to its community asking for clothing donations as its community closet, which anyone can visit, was running low.
“A clean t-shirt, a good pair of shoes, or a duffle bag can make a meaningful difference for someone experiencing housing insecurity, living outdoors, or facing financial hardship,” Sanctuary Toronto wrote in its Instagram post.
Donations can be dropped off at 25 Charles St. E. on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday between 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. and Thursdays between 11 a.m. and 9 p.m.
If you can’t make it to the drop-off location? Call 647-368-7766 to arrange a nearby pick-up or drop-off.
What to keep in mind when donating
- Donate clothing that is clean, wearable and in good condition. If you wouldn’t wear it yourself because of a hole or wear-and-tear, don’t donate it.
- Sanctuary Toronto only accepts grown adult clothing, so don’t drop off children’s clothing.
- Most urgent needs:
- T-shirts
- Shorts
- Pants
- Shoes (Particularly men’s size 8 and under).
- Duffle bags
