If you’re an East End-er or simply a big bread fan, then you have to trek out to the Little India neighbourhood for Jupiter Bakehouse.
The French-style bakery is located in Little India at 1505 Gerrard St E, started by Blackbird Baking Co and Petite Thuet alum Jackson Forster.
After a couple of summers spent as a farmers’ market exclusive, they finally found their East End home late last year and have become a quick favourite of mine.
It’s a small space, so don’t expect any tables or seats, but it more than makes up for it with its incredible baked goods, great company, and focus on supporting local businesses.
Plus, the employees are great, always super friendly and down to chat for whatever comes to mind.

From croissants and fougasses (a focaccia-like bread traditionally shaped like wheat) to (at least) five different types of sourdough loaves for all your sandwich-making needs.
My first time around, I had one of their loaves with some roast beef slices from their couple-of-doors-down neighbours, Sanagan’s Meat Locker, and it was a match made in heaven.
Although their prices are higher than, let’s say, your local Timmies, it’s worth it.
It doesn’t just stop at bread; the bakery also serves decadent tarts, basque cheesecakes, and seasonal offerings like a moist pistachio cake I had in January and am still dreaming about.
Whether you’re craving a salty pretzel loaf or a scrumptious Danish (I’m partial to their manchego one), there’s something for every pastry lover out there.
