If your bank account is tired of seeing endless transactions to your fave coffee spot, let’s try an alternative.
Everyone always claims you can make fancy drinks you spend a pretty penny on at home, but a good cup of matcha or coffee is an art form and takes time and technique. Why not learn from the pros and see how they pull it all off?
If you’re a loose-leaf tea fan, then check out Toronto Tea Club. If you want to learn the art of brewing teas across the Asian diaspora, then check out the group. They host at least one event a month, and tickets range from $10 (for tea tastings) to $50 (for matcha making with a kit included).
If you’re a big matcha fan and okay with paying a bit more for the experience, check out 10 DEAN, Tea Saoko and Gleam & Sip.
For those who can’t spend a night out without a fruity drink in hand, maybe it’s time to try making your own cocktails. Family-owned Reid’s Distillery hosts regular cocktail classes where you’ll make three unique cocktails in an hour and a half for a total of $69. Spend time behind the bar mastering the art of making an incredible drink, then take those skills home to show off at your next hosted dinner.
For those in the mood for more themed cocktail nights, Bare Bones also hosts regular cocktail workshops.
Now, coffee lovers, the prices to learn from the best are a bit higher, but definitely worth it. For the best bang for your buck, check out Harbord Village’s flower shop-meets-café, Olivia’s Garden. For $78.95, learn the ins and outs of milk steaming, pouring and making foam art for an hour-long class.
