East End Carrot Green Roof and Garden wants your pots

Have you outgrown your green-thumb era but want to give your pots another life?

The Carrot Green Roof and Garden at 348 Danforth Ave. will take them!

If you’re ever in the Playter Estates-Danforth neighbourhood, take a look. The roof is open to the public from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. during the spring and summer. It’s a great space to pretend you’re not in the busy East End and you can see how your donations are put to use.

The gardening and resource centre can be found on top of The Big Carrot Community Market.

The roof and garden space brings artists, gardeners, researchers, Torontonians and more together to create a space that serves and protects the environment and the community.

It shows “how a wasted urban space like a rooftop can seamlessly integrate production, education and congregation.”

If you’d like to support the nature-focused centre, they’re currently looking for large or oversized plant pots to support their growing space this season.

Here’s what Carrot Green Roof AND GARDEN wants for its growing space

• Extra-large planters suitable for small trees or shrubs.
• Deep pots for root crops or larger plants.
• Sturdy outdoor containers (plastic, ceramic, or fabric grow bags).

Used pots are fine as long as they’re still in good, usable condition.

If you want to do more than donate pots, the Carrot Green Roof offers various programming of volunteer gardening sessions, the Toronto Garden Share Program, where they connect you with gardeners across the city, field trips and more.
