Maybe the Dubai chocolate phase wasn’t really a phase.
A little nutty for pistachio or looking to add something new to your coffee rotation? Shaghf Toronto shows us non-traditional flavour combinations for your morning fix.
We stopped by the café, located at 170 University Ave., and asked lead barista Nathan Salvador Coelho to show us two customer favourites — the iced pistachio latte and the iced habibi latte.
One drink combines pistachio paste with condensed milk, while the other mixes vanilla and hazelnut syrup.
Coelho walked us through the recipes step-by-step, showing the skill and precision needed to get it right every single time.
“All of it matters,” he says, explaining how important measuring every espresso shot is to ensuring consistency and flavour.
Watch the video down below, download the recipe card or keep scrolling for the full instructions on how these two drinks are made.

Step 1: Pull a double shot of espresso
If you are a caffeine addict and have one of those fancy espresso machines, you’re going to make a double shot. Alternatively, you can use instant coffee powder and stir with water. Coelho measures 18 g of coffee beans to make 36 g of espresso.
Step 2: Add the flavour
For the iced pistachio latte:
Add 35 g of pistachio paste, 15 g of condensed milk to the shaker and 210 g of special milk.
They make their milk in-house.
For the iced habibi latte:
Add two pumps of hazelnut syrup and two pumps of vanilla syrup to a glass.
Pour in enough sweet milk to fill the glass.
Step 3: Mix it altogether
Once all of your liquids, excluding the espresso shot, are together, keep shaking until your arms hurts.
Step 4: pour the espresso
Pour your flavour mixture over ice, then add your espresso on top.
