There’s plenty of reasons you could’ve clicked on this recipe guide. You could be an Alfie’s fan, a person trying to level up their sandwich making skills or even someone who’s interested in shocking their guests with a fancy dinner spread.

There’s no denying that the right ingredients, sauces and bread could transform your lunch meal. We had a chance to go to Alfie’s Sandwiches + Market, located at 36 Baldwin St., and they showed us how to make their Mona Lisa sandwich.

Ingredients

To make your Alfie’s Mona Lisa sandwich:

  • Pesto
  • Truffle cream
  • Pistachios
  • Burrata
  • Salt
  • Black pepper
  • Olive oil
  • Prosciutto
  • Arugula

Step 1: Prep your bread

Start with two slices of sourdough bread. Spread pesto on one slice and truffle cream on the other. These two spreads give the sandwich its rich, savoury flavour.

Step 2: Add your toppings

Sprinkle chopped pistachios over the pesto, adding a little crunch to the sandwich. Tear open the burrata and layer it over the pesto, then season with salt and black pepper. Drizzle with olive oil.

Step 3: Layer on the prosciutto

Add the 24-month-aged Prosciutto di Parma over the burrata. Make sure to spread it evenly across the bread so you get a bit in every bite.

Step 4: Finish and enjoy!

Top the sandwich with fresh arugula, then close it with the slice of sourdough spread with truffle cream. Slice in half and enjoy!
