I want to know what you were expecting or hoping for and how you’ve been surprised or disappointed after settling in Toronto.

If you’re new to Toronto, you probably had some expectations of what life in the city would be like.

Whether you immigrated from your home country or moved from a different province, what friends of friends told you about the 6ix might not always be accurate. I, for one, found it much harder to find my footing than I imagined.

So, I want to know what you were expecting or hoping for and how you’ve been surprised or disappointed after settling here. I’m also curious about what you wish you knew when you landed.

What for? Good question — The Green Line is preparing an Action Journey all about newcomers to the city. Part 1, the explainer: we’ll break down the reality of moving here. For Part 2, we’re producing some tools that list everything new Torontonians need to know and all the resources they can use.

Got a story, a question or even a tip to share? I want to hear from you.

You can send me a voicemail by recording a short message with the button below. English, French and Arabic messages are welcome. You’ll have 90 seconds. I’d love to know your name, when you came to Toronto, and where you’re from, what you expected and how you were surprised or disappointed.

If you prefer to connect through an online conversation, click this link to jump to a Facebook Messenger chat with me, where you can send me a text or voice message.

Prefer email? Reach out to yara@thegreenline.to, and I’ll coordinate with you directly.

I may use the information you share in our stories, but voice messages won’t be published without your consent.

Help me paint a real picture of what it’s like to move to Toronto, newcomer to newcomer.

As always, thanks for supporting The Green Line’s work.
