Toronto’s summer heat is here, so it’s important to stay cool and hydrated.
If you want to help unhoused folks in the West End who’re in need of some help to ride the heatwave, the West End Community Action Network is always looking for donations.
The group is looking for either financial donations or in-kind items, including water, electrolyte drinks such as Gatorade, easy-to-eat snacks and summer clothes. It’s also looking for camping gear, including tents, sleeping bags and blankets, as well as Presto tickets, coffee shop gift cards and more. You can check the full list here.
This small, grassroots group of neighbours has already been collecting and buying summer essentials to distribute to the community — as you can see the latest outreach here.
In June, members of the West End Community Action Network raised $1,000 to spend on supplies and distributed Gatorade, socks, underwear, hygiene products and snacks to community members in need. In an Instagram update on June 16, the group said, “this haul will last us the next couple of weeks.” That means now is a good time to help replenish the stock, especially with temperatures expected to reach 35 degrees, an all time high for this summer so far.
