The deck gives more context on what's to come in the story, and what the tension is.

Diana Chan McNally has been voted as city councillor for Ward 4 Parkdale High-Park for her very first term. Her priorities include affordable housing for all, climate action, transit and community spaces.

Coun. Chan McNally won the councillor seat in the 2026 Toronto municipal election with 42.5% of the votes, beating Nadia Guerrera who only had 27.8% of the votes and Adam Pham who had 13.3%. She will officially step into her role on Nov. 15, 2026.

The Green Line reached out to Chan McNally to learn more about her priorities for the next four years, but got no response. Here are some of the promises Chan McNally made in her campaign:

  • Building housing and protecting tenants: Chan McNally says she wants to create more permanently affordable housing by investing in and expanding the Multi-Unit Residential Acquisition (MURA) program. She also says she wants to support homeowners to age in place. She wants to scale RentSafeTO, increase shelter beds and expand eviction prevention support.
  • Investing in environmental protection and climate action: Chan McNally says she will push the City to care more for existing green spaces by improving tree care operations, deepening partnerships with community groups and Indigenous-led groups. She also says she will accelerate residential and commercial adoption of local renewable energy generation.
  • Investing in arts, culture and community spaces: Chan McNally plans on protecting public spaces and queer spaces, expanding microgrants for community-led activities, expanding recreational centre hours and more.
  • Improving roads and transit: Chan McNally has plans for road design and maintenance, which include improving communication to residents, investing in snow removal equipment, implementing road safety improvements on Parkside Drive and expanding the Toronto Community Crisis Service to provide response to crisis calls across the TTC network.

Here’s how Chan McNally responded to election pledges shared by local organizations and advocacy groups:

  • Chan McNally fully signed on to the Community-led Planning Pledge to fund community-led planning and centre community voices.
  • She signed the TTC Riders’ pledge to push for more reliable, affordable, accessible, frequent, fast, and safe public transit.
  • She fully agreed to Cycle Toronto’s pledge to improve cycling infrastructure in the city.
  • She fully committed to the demands raised by Toronto ACORN to give RentSafeTO teeth, stand up to Ontario and tackle heat and affordability. You can check the details here.
  • She signed the Toronto Environmental Alliance’s pledge to commit to voting for a maximum temperature bylaw, plant trees in hot neighbourhoods, cut single-use trash at big events, pause approvals for big AI data centres and cut emissions.
