Here’s everything you need to know about Mike Colle who was re-elected Ward 8’s city councillor on Oct. 26.

Mike Colle is returning to council for a third term as the representative for Ward 8 Eglinton-Lawrence with plans to prioritize managing traffic, improving safety and financing community housing projects.

Coun. Colle won the seat with 70.26% of the votes, and will begin his next term in the Eglinton-Lawrence seat on Nov 15.  Liz Grade came in second with 10.76%, with Jason McDonald and Enzo Torrone following with 9.67% and 5.67% of the vote respectively.

The Green Line reached out to Colle for comment, but didn’t get a response. So, we compiled promises and priorities shared during his campaign this election season; here’s what you can look forward to:

  • Public safety: Colle says he will advocate for improving hate laws and protecting schools and synagogues in the ward. He says he will focus attention on preventing and stopping attacks by creating more police presence and calling for full-time RCMP and Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) engagement in the area.

  • Pedestrian safety near schools: Colle says he wants to bring back speed cameras to school zones.

  • Community hub in Lawrence Heights: Colle says he’ll continue to work towards completing the next parts of the three-stage neighbourhood revitalization plan to turn the south part of the Yorkdale Shopping Centre into a mixed-income neighbourhood including parks, retail spaces, and units.

  • Transit improvements: He says he wants  to freeze fares and improve signal priority and frequency on the TTC.

Here’s how Colle responded to election pledges shared by local organizations and advocacy groups:

  • Colle didn’t respond to  the Community-led Planning Pledge to fund community-led planning and center community voices.
  • He didn’t sign or respond to TTC Riders’ pledge to push for more reliable, affordable, accessible, frequent, fast and safe public transit.
  • Colle committed to all demands in Cycle Toronto’s pledge to improve cycling infrastructure in the city.
  • He committed to 11 out of the 12 demands raised by Toronto ACORN to give RentSafeTO teeth, stand up to Ontario and tackle heat and affordability. You can check the details here.
  • Colle didn’t sign the Toronto Environmental Alliance Pledge, which commits councillors to vote for a maximum temperature bylaw, plant trees in hot neighbourhoods, cut single-use trash at big events, pause approvals for big AI data centres and cut emissions.
