Why you must go to Maha’s Egyptian Brunch in Toronto

Maha's Egyptian Brunch offers food, warm drinks and a cozy atmosphere.

The family-run Maha's Egyptian Brunch located in South Riverdale is Michelin recommended and usually has a line down the block.

Maha’s Egyptian Brunch is the girl that she thinks she is.

You might’ve seen the reels about this place, but trust me, it’s worth the hype. Not only is the interior completely decked out and homey, but the service is incredible and the food itself is even better.

This place has been on my list for some time. I love trying new cuisine, and I’ve had homemade Egyptian food thanks to a friend in elementary school, but little since.

Now, first, I have to give it up to the amazing interior decor. One thing about me is that I love a cozy spot, and Maha’s is the living embodiment of that. Stepping into the restaurant felt like stepping into my future living room — eclectic, colourful and with walls and surfaces plastered with art and cute trinkets.

One wall near me had an array of differently coloured bills in various currencies from top to bottom, which I will definitely add to my Pinterest board. Not to mention the deep brown wooden booths and seats adorned in colourful patterns and pillows galore. I am a booth supremacist, so that alone sold me.

But the food! If the interior design got me, the food assured me that I’d be back. I got their The Max sandwich. Filled to the brim with soft-boiled eggs, falafel, foole and pickled onions, it was a messy but filling meal worth every penny. This is for real foodies looking for a satisfying meal and a spot to truly gab.

And though I went solo this time, this place begs to be enjoyed with friends and family. On a Friday afternoon, I was one of the few people who came solo, and though I didn’t mind, I know that I gotta come back. Don’t be shocked if you spot The Green Line crew there; I will be dragging them there for brunch by the end of the year!

If you’re a big tea fan, order a pot for the table.  I got myself a small one of mint tea, served in the cutest pot and it was so worth it. You even get a free refill, which is great for tea lovers like me because one cup is never enough. That tea helped me make a dent in my reading goal and helped me slow down a bit after a busy week.

Now this is for the real brunchers, the ones who are early risers, because it closes at 4:30 p.m. You can also check out Maha’s Café, which has the same menu nestled behind Kotn’s Leslieville storefront. But for this food, I’m willing to change my night owl ways for another shot at a Maha’s meal.
