Toronto heat is hard to beat!
For over a decade, The Common Table (162 Bloor St. W.) has offered clothes, haircuts, mental health support and more every week to drop-in community members.
And, the drop-in team is asking for your help!
The drop-in space has been a welcoming and non-judgmental place for folks to connect, receive resources and service referrals. The volunteer team serves between 150 and 200 people every day, who come through the Annex neighbourhood.
Jim Willis, outreach and community support worker at The Common Table drop-in, posted on Nextdoor, asking the Toronto community for heat relief and summer items for the unhoused community who visit the drop-in.
“Summer in the city has arrived, and while we all look forward to the sunshine, the extreme heat brings its own serious survival challenges for our unhoused neighbours,” wrote Willis. “Dehydration, sunburn, and lack of clean, breathable clothing are daily battles when you are living on the pavement,” he continued.
Here’s what The Common Table drop-in is asking for:
- brand new underwear and socks
- lightweight blue jeans and shorts of all sizes
- sturdy backpacks
- new razors
- deodorant
- sunscreen
- baseball caps

Willis wrote in his post, “You don’t just donate a pair of shorts or a stick of deodorant; you donate comfort, a bit of dignity and a tangible sign that the community cares.”
