Who says you have to spend Canada Day finding a spot at Riverdale Park or the harbourfront to watch fireworks?
We all know the feeling of getting to one of these places and having no luck in grabbing a good spot. It can be especially annoying when the tallest people in Toronto decide to stand right in front of you, blocking your view.
So here are three events happening in Toronto that are not focused on celebrating Canada Day.
What’s Left? No Canada Day Solidarity Fundraiser for people in Iran
Come to Baby G (1608 Dundas St. W.) on July 1 to listen to Vestigio, Lee Reed and Cee.Reality, Gutter Girl and more. Doors open at 7:30 p.m., and tickets are $15 or pay what you can. Proceeds will be going directly to those in Toronto with family and friends in Iran.
FIFA World Cup watch party at Nathan Phillips Square
While the FIFA Fan Festival is on break, head to Nathan Phillips Square to catch two games on the big screen. At 4 p.m., see Belgium versus Senegal and at 8 p.m. watch the U.S. versus Bosnia and Herzegovina.
8th Fire Rising Anti-Canada Day Gathering
Join the 8th Fire Rising, an Indigenous-led coalition for an anti-Canada Day gathering at Christie Pitts Park, starting at 3 p.m. They’ll have music, speakers, silk screening and info tables.
