I don’t know about you, but the second a leaf hits the ground, I get the sudden urge to stay inside till the ice thaws in March…
That’s why, when I read that the Toronto Public Library (TPL) hosts book clubs, I knew I needed to share this with all the other Torontonians who feel like they want to hibernate.
I’ll be highlighting book clubs at my personal favourite library, the Toronto Reference Library. However, if you don’t live close to Yonge Street and Bloor Street East, then you can sort through TPL’s book club list by library location on their website to find one closer to you.
Libraries are a great third space. They’re free, have WiFi, endless books to choose from, plus some peace and quiet.
And while libraries are known for their silent study spots and hushed conversations, they’re also a great place for connection — especially if you.
Here is a list of ongoing book clubs happening at the Toronto Reference Library:
- Connecting the Dots(?) Book Club explores the conditions that make people prone to extreme beliefs.
- Enigmatic Elders Mystery Book Club explores different kinds of mysteries.
- Dystopia Nonfiction Book Club: A Good War discusses politics and society.
- Theatre reading club with the French Theatre of Toronto is a French book club that explores scenes that have defined the world of theatre.
- Reference Library Book Club is a French book club that centres around having a cozy atmosphere for French speakers.
- Graphic Novel Book Club explores manga, comic and graphic novels.
- Queer Literature Book Club discusses 2SLGBTQ+ literature.
- Mythology and folklore reading group: Power is the November theme that explores power from around the world.
