This video was produced by a youth journalist who participated in The Green Line's Alexandra Park Youth Journalism program in partnership with Scadding Court Community Centre. It's part of the series "Know Your Neighbour," which profiles the people and places important to community members in Alexandra Park, Kensington Market and Chinatown.
Marc Perraut has been serving Toronto’s best poutine for over a decade.
Nom Nom Nom Poutine has been operating in Market 707 since 2011, when Perraut was serving crepes at the time. Today, he serves different kinds of poutine, and produces 25,000 per year. In 2022, the shop was voted "Best of Toronto" in the poutine category by blogTO.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau came to try the famous dish back in 2014, which Perraut describes as one of the most memorable moments of his career.
Perraut, who is originally from Quebec, says his success comes after rounds of trial and error, as well as recipe-testing, over the years. Sourcing high-quality ingredients is also a key factor.
"What really helped is that the type of poutine that I make here is the type that I always enjoyed growing up," he says.
