From Italian bakeries and Levantine dessert shops to hookah bars and nail salons, the diasporic communities in Wexford have found a way to make Toronto their home away from home.

Wexford/Maryvale lies on Scarborough’s west end, stretching from Eglinton Avenue East to Highway 40. A large population of immigrants from the Philippines, China, Syria, Sri Lanka, India and Greece call the neighbourhood home.

Hop on the 54 Lawrence bus with locals to find whatever suits your needs in the various strip malls on both sides of the street — from independent legal services to car dealerships.

To the naked eye, this neighbourhood is an unassuming concrete playground, and isn't immediately photogenic like flashier, more modern parts of Toronto. But a place like Wexford will pleasantly surprise you with its charm and the warm, friendly faces among local residents.
